# General settings

Check the firm’s identity and the legal entities used on generated documents.

## Set the firm details

1. Open **Settings → General**.
2. Under **Company Details**, select **Edit**.
3. Check **Company Name**, **Description**, and **Logo**, then select **Save Details**. **Cancel** leaves the saved details unchanged.
4. Confirm the saved details are correct.

These details identify the firm across Ziffa. They are separate from the Contact and Entity records you create for clients.

| Field | What it changes |
| --- | --- |
| **Company Name** | The firm's name shown across Ziffa and used as the default issuing identity. |
| **Description** | A short description of the firm. It is separate from a Service's description. |
| **Logo** | The firm's default logo. Choose an image file to replace it. |

## Check setup progress

Where **Setup Progress** is shown, use its links to finish the remaining configuration. A missing item should take you to the relevant setup area.

Follow [Configure your firm](https://ziffa.io/user-guide/settings) if you are setting up Ziffa for the first time.

## Add another issuing company

Use **Registered Companies** when your firm uses more than one legal identity on generated documents.

1. Select **Add** in Registered Companies.
2. Enter **Name**, choose a **Logo** if needed, and check **Extra template context (JSON)** before saving.
3. Use **Edit** beside an existing company to correct its details.
4. When preparing a document, check the issuing-company selection if Ziffa asks you to choose between more than one identity.

| Field | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **Name** | The alternate legal name used on generated documents. |
| **Logo** | The logo for this identity. |
| **Extra template context (JSON)** | Optional named values used by document templates. Leave this blank unless your firm's template needs them. It must be a JSON object, such as `{"firm_code": "HARBOUR"}`; ask the colleague maintaining your templates for the required names. |

A registered issuing company is not a client Entity. It also does not replace the Xero issuing-organisation setting used for [Billing](https://ziffa.io/user-guide/settings/billing).

Which identity a proposal uses is chosen on each Service. **Firm default** uses the company details on this page. Another registered company is used only when that Service selects it. If one Entity's Services name more than one identity, you choose the issuer when you send the document. See [Registered company](https://ziffa.io/user-guide/settings/services#registered-company).
